Crusade

Centre for Rural Systems and Development (CRUSADE), founded in 1991, works closely with communities to alleviate poverty and to bring about sustainable changes that improve the lives and livelihoods of the poor. CRUSADE works in around 200 villages in four development blocks of Minjur, Sholavarm, Ellapuram and Gummidipoondi in rural Tiruvallur district, north of Chennai, covering 250,000 population.

Ethical gifts

Through our Ethical Gift program, SOTE supporters contribute items that bring hope and relief to resource-limited rural families during special occasions. Currently, we offer Delivery Kits, Blind sticks and Spectacles as Ethical Gifts.

Delivery Kit

Our kit includes essential items such as mosquito nets, baby towels, cotton dresses, inners, baby powder, baby oil, soap, and sanitary napkins for new mothers who often struggle to access these necessities. Over the past year, we provided this kit to 14 young mothers, offering vital support to low-income families.

Spectacles

Through our eye check-up camps in villages, we have significantly impacted lives by distributing spectacles to individuals with poor vision. In the last year, CRUSADE distributed 165 spectacles to those with vision problems such as refractive errors and dimness, significantly improving their day-to-day activities.

Blind Sticks

CRUSADE also offers blind sticks to individuals with poor eyesight to enhance mobility. In 2023, we provided 19 blind sticks, aiding those in need.
